My Biography

Hi everyone, I’m Danny Ding, a first-year Business and Finance student and I’m running for Vice President of Community 2024/25

I was born and raised in Sitiawan, Perak. I was a track and field athlete at my high school and a badminton player, representing MSSD Manjung. I was actively involved in clubs and societies during high school, as I was the president of the English Club, the treasurer of the Cadet Police, and the president of the Badminton Club.

Entering Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, I am the president of Heriot-Watt University Badminton Club for the 2023/24 term. During my term, my team and I hosted the HWUMCUP 2023 Badminton Tournament and the Watt Games 2024 Badminton Tournament (in collaboration with Decathlon Puchong). Me and my team also hosted Women in Sports Week and university team selection in 2023.

My Manifesto

As your Vice President of Community, I bring a vision fueled by engagement, diversity, and community. During my term, I will

  • Increase student engagement on campus via events, workshops, and forums.

  • Enhance the process of event approval and fund claims for all clubs and societies.

  • Prioritise students’ needs and wants and act as a medium between students and the university.

What motivated me to nominate myself?

I built my passion and motivation during my term as president of the badminton club, and I want to turn my passion into a bigger field, which is the HWUMSA, to continue serving the student body and the university. Despite complaining that HWUMSA is not doing its best, why not become part of HWUMSA to change the situation? I welcome any form of feedback from the students, as I believe that this is the best way to improve HWUMSA's performance.

My top three priorities

As your Vice President of Community, I’ll continue my experience and professionalism to serve the students of Heriot-Watt University Malaysia

Internal

  • Improve the event approval process, new club startup, and fund claim process. Host more exciting events that can increase students’ engagement, not only in their academic

  • Priorities that students need and want, as well as students’ feedback, will improve the performance of HWUMSA.

External

  • Encourage more social events and networking opportunities between HWUM students and other university students.

HWUMSA

  • Establish a clear and straight mission and vision for HWUMSA and HWUMSA officers to ensure that all information is transmitted clearly and to avoid any form of miscommunication.

What would I bring to the role?

HWUMSA

  • Leadership skill

  • Experience

  • Professionalism

HWUM

  • Exposure of the name of HWUM

  • Commitment to student success

Individual students

  • A platform for you to develop your skills before working

  • A platform for you to build your connection

  • A platform for you to lead a team
